Before students can take academic risks, ask difficult questions, or push themselves toward a challenging goal, they need to know something important:

They belong.

Relationships have always been at the center of the John Rex experience. They are one of our three foundational values: Relationships, Rigor, and Relevance; because strong learning begins with strong connections.

That happens in hundreds of small moments every day.

It is a teacher greeting a student by name. A counselor checking in. An administrator knowing a family's story. An older student encouraging a younger one. A staff member noticing when something just doesn't seem right.

These interactions may seem simple, but together they create a school community where students are known.

We want every child who walks through our doors to experience high expectations. We also want them to know there are adults around them who believe they can meet those expectations.

Relationships and rigor aren't opposites.

At their best, they strengthen one another.

Because when students know that the people around them care deeply about who they are, they are more willing to discover who they can become.
